It’s been pretty crazy here at Writing Journey Co headquarters—you might have been wondering why I haven’t posted a blog for a few weeks and here’s the reason—I’ve been working on my first video.
Making the video
I’ve been talking about making videos of my own for a while but actually doing it? Well that was another matter.
Like a lot of writers I know, standing in front of an audience—whether physical or digital—sends me into a nervous spin. I might look controlled in the video (well hopefully I do!) but just between us I was falling to pieces behind the scenes.
But I made myself persist and take a creative plunge into the unknown. I’m always telling you guys to take risks on your writing journey so I thought it was time I follow my own advice.
And guess what?
It turned out to be a lot more fun than I thought. It gave me a chance to brush up on my script writing skills, learn a bit more about video editing and exercise my creativity in a new way. It was exciting to create something like this in an environment where I had complete control over the process from beginning to end—something I don’t often get to experience when I’m freelancing as a copywriter.

Plus Brielle was over the moon that she got to be on camera again. There’s some great footage in the video from her perspective that she shot wearing her GoPro Fetch harness.
Another interesting thing that happened when I committed to making the video was I had to confront my inner critic in a new way. That’s why I decided to base this script on one of my first and most popular blog posts—the one where my inner critic made her internet debut as a duct taped Bratz doll. She unlike me has no reserve about being on camera.
